Months after the explosive events in A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre, Rhys, and their companions are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated – scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.
IT’S GOOD TO BE BACK
WhOOPS. I know, it’s been a HOT MINUTE since I’ve posted anything, but if there is one thing that is going to bring me back it’s a new SJM book!
I was basically sitting at the window all day yesterday waiting for my mailman, like an old woman in a western sits on her porch and waits for her fellas to come back from the wars or whatever! When I finally got the alert my book had been delivered I basically ran outside in a towel, some people maybe have seen my butt. I have no regrets.
Alright, so who else remembers that Beauty and the Beast sequel about Christmas and there was an Organ that was all salty about being like…locked away in part of the castle nobody visited?? And Belle was OBSESSED with finding a yule log??? And maybe there was like a random christmas angel girl that had been locked in a trunk which is horrifying because like omg are there people trapped as things locked in TRUNKS FOR THE WHOLE TIME EVERYONE IS UNDER THE ENCHANTMENT?!
I’ve gone off on a tangent, the point is EVERYONE REMEMBERS THIS MOVIE RIGHT?! THIS ISN’T A FEVER DREAM I HAD?
Okay good, because this little novella was BASICALLY that.
Which is just to say a sweet little side adventure about Christmas (sorry SOLSTICE) that puts our favorite Court in the most adorable situations. It also reminds me of that one time I charted out who would be the most helpful in a Holiday situation! Nailed it.
This novella feels like a Christmas special, and honestly I kinda wish we had gotten it in December but I’M NOT GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HAVING A NEW ACOTAR IN MY HANDS SO. This is one of my Most Anticipated Releases of 2018 and I TRIED to pace myself (lol nope) but its so LITTLE I’m back to just waiting in the dark for more Maas in my life.
The one MAJOR eye-roll thing I have from this is well….the fucking BABY THING.
My girl Feyre JUST turned 21, and her Mate is like what, 500?! GIRL. WHAT IS YOU DOING. I get that a ‘Happily Ever After’ usually includes a baby but it continues to BUM ME OUT. I know in this world the Fae babies are rare so it could take them a while and blah blah blah whatever still. The idea that somehow this little family was somehow incomplete without a child or that Feyre NEEDED to have a babies on the brain so soon is just a bummer.
OTHER THAN THAT. It does a good job of setting up what the drama could be going forward. And I am really excited to see where we go from here! (Except for fucking pregnancy shit I’m not down for that.)
These books will always be important to me because they are stories about healing and putting yourself back together and coming out the other side still capable of love and hope and whatever I don’t want to get into it I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT IT. I’m just so happy all my Fae Baes get to have presents and wear comfy scarves and stuff!
SCENES I AM GOING TO NEED FAN ART OF IMMEDIATELY
- That fucking snowball fight and their damn BARRICADES.
- Feyre’s birthday cake
- Amren and her piles of jewelry
- Cassian and Feyre drunk decorating the townhouse
- And let’s face it, that wall scene cus I’m basically a perv
