Weekly Watch-ems: Shows I’m Watching and Think You Should Be Watching Too

So obviously I love to read, (I’ve read 10 books this month, I’m so pleased with myself!) but the other great love of my life is TELEVISION! I watch a LOT of tv.
Like a lot.
No, like take whatever you’re thinking is a lot and double that. Now add on one extra binge watching session and that’s probably about where I am.
It’s a lot, a lot.
Might as well put all those hours to good use, so I’m going to start talking about TV stuff on the blog as well. Love that for me. 😜

Gonna do this new series where I just talk about shows I’ve recently been watching, or that I just love, OR MAYBE I’LL DO THEMES. WHO KNOWS. The world is an oyster and I love to shuck.

Looks like the theme for today is Newly Available For Binge Watching I GUESS? IS THAT A THEME? Sure. I’m the boss.

Wondering what you should watch this weekend?!

Because it’s chilly and honestly WHY go outside if you don’t have to? Why go outside at ALL? EVER? Just stay in your home. Always wearing a wedding dress. And wailing every so often while you hold a dusty candelabra! LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!
So while you do all that, here are three shows for you to binge watch this weekend!

A Discovery of Witches

“Diana Bishop, a historian and reluctant witch, unexpectedly discovers a bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library. This discovery forces her back into the world of magic in order to unravel the secrets it holds about magical beings. She is offered help by mysterious geneticist and vampire, Matthew Clairmont. Despite a long-held mistrust between witches and vampires they form an alliance and set out to protect the book and solve the mysteries hidden within while dodging threats from the creature world.”

SQUEEEEEEEE. It’s basically Twilight with adults – and isn’t that what we’re all looking for at this point in our lives!? It’s fun, sexy, and completely ridiculous. The show stars Teresa Palmer and Matthew REAL Goode and I have been waiting like FIVE MONTHS to watch it since it aired in the UK last Fall. It’s finally out in the US and you can watch it on Sundance Now! PROTIP: get the free week trial and binge watch it in one evening, and then scream about Matthew Goode for three days. OR if you can’t finish the show in a week (there are only 8 episodes), if you try to cancel your free trial they will give you a MONTH for free. SO. THERE IS THAT. (Also Leverage is on SundanceNow! ADDED BONUS!)

10/10 Watch With Wine And Chocolates. TREAT YO SELF.

Good Girls

Three suburban mothers suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe and risk everything to take their power back.

Good Girls is a super bingeable, easy watch. The story isn’t anything new but it’s still really engaging, thanks in large part to the chemistry between Christina Hendricks, Retta, and Mae Whitman. It wobbles a little at times, but I chalk that up to first season legs and hope it will only get stronger in the second season. I get easily frustrated with shows like this when the main characters just keep making stupid mistakes, like DAMN it is not that hard to be a criminal, get your shit together! While that does happen in this show, it’s actually fun watching how these ladies problem solve. Also I just really want Beth and Rio to bang. We all want that right??!!
You can watch the first season on Netflix.

7/10 Watch While You KonMari Your Bedroom

Marvel’s The Punisher

Frank Castle, known throughout New York City as “The Punisher” after exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his family, uncovers a larger conspiracy beyond what was done to him and his family.

Frank Castle: Big ‘ol tough guy who smashes bad guys to bits
Me: my sweet boi, i will protec!
I’m rewatching the first season now with my sister and her live-in boyfriend since they haven’t seen it yet and I wanted to get a lil refresher before watching Season Two (so NO SPOILERS)! The actual plot is a little rickety, and could definitely be tightened up but I enjoyed every minute of the first season. It’s my favorite of the Netflix Marvel shows, and the only one I’m still interested in. And not just because of Ben Barnes though I’m gonna be honest it DOES play a factor. STUPID SEXY PRINCE CASPIAN.

Side-Note: It’s really stressing me OUT now knowing what is going on with the Marvel shows. Is Disney picking them up for their streaming platform or NAH? IM STRESSED. JUST DON’T CANCEL PUNISHER. They’re gonna cancel Punisher.
[EDIT AS OF 2/18/2019: OKAY lesbehonest the second season wasn’t as good, I’m actually super annoyed at how not good it was and now it’s officially been cancelled and if that’s how they’re gonna play it then it’s JUST FINE BY ME]

10/10 Watch While You Plot The Demise Of All Your Enemies and Eat Yummy Cookies

Also if anyone is looking for specific TV recs I GOTCHU. I live for that, seriously I will make you a custom watchlist! Just ask! 🖤

Have you seen any of these shows yet? What did you think?

  1. Ah I love the ideas of this!
Never know when you could cross a show you’ll end up liking! (Though im not one to binge-watch.. ahah most I do is 2/3episodes « before bed »😅)

    1. Thank you!! Yeah I try to watch at least one episode of all the new shows that come out just to give ’em a chance. I know a LOT of people who just cannot sit and watch tv for hours on end, so you’re not alone! 😂

    1. PLEASE watch it! I feel like it’s everywhere but at the same time no one I know has watched it! AND I WANNA TALK ABOUT IT!

  2. Ooooo I think I’ve heard about Discovery of Witches since I’m in the UK…but honestly I don’t pay much attention to TV. I think the most recent show which had me binge watching episodes, was Meteor Garden 2018 (the Chinese version) and I’m blaming one of my book blogger friends for that obsession. Honestly I adore that show, other than that I tend to watch more crime based stuff or erm…I’ll watch Heartland (but I have it on DVD and I need to catch up cause I’m behind on my watching)

p.s we’re name buddies just I don’t have an accent on the e hehe

    1. That’s so funny a friend of mine was *just* trying to convince me I needed to watch Meteor Garden! I hadn’t heard of it before, but I think I’ll try it! It’s hard though because I usually watch tv while I’m doing other stuff, and if I have to read subtitles then I can’t do multiple things.
